Switching systems feels daunting, but a staged migration keeps it painless. Here's the playbook.
1. Start with reference data
Bring across your products, raw materials, suppliers and casks first. These rarely change and form the backbone.
2. Load current stock
Enter your present stock levels and cask contents (volume, ABV) as opening balances. Now your inventory is live.
3. Set your remission position
Record how much of your remission cap you've used this financial year so tracking is accurate from day one.
4. Run parallel for one period
Keep your spreadsheet alongside for a single settlement period to build confidence, then retire it.
5. Verify a return
Produce your first excise return from the new system and check it matches expectations.
Tips
- Migrate during a quieter production window
- Don't try to back-fill years of history — start clean from a date
- Lean on support during the first month
