Maturation isn't set-and-forget. Tracking each cask's progress protects your asset and your quality.
What to log
- Volume and ABV at each check (the basis of angel's share and LAL)
- Sensory notes — how the spirit is developing
- Target empty date — when you plan to bottle
Sampling cadence
A periodic check (e.g. annually, plus before bottling decisions) balances insight against handling losses. More frequent for fast-maturing small casks.
Use the data
- Spot casks maturing faster or slower than expected
- Plan bottling and cash flow around target dates
- Decide when a cask is at its peak
Keep it per cask
Each cask profile should hold its full measurement history. CaskPilot timestamps every measurement and tracks angel's share automatically, with alerts for casks nearing their target date.
