Blending and vatting turn individual casks or runs into a consistent product. Good records make a great blend repeatable.
What to record
- Each component — which cask, vessel or run, and how much
- Volume and ABV of each component
- Resulting volume and weighted ABV of the blend
- Destination vessel
Weighted ABV
The blend's strength is the volume-weighted average of its components:
Blend ABV = Total pure alcohol ÷ Total volume × 100
Software does this instantly; by hand it's error-prone.
Why it matters
- Consistency — reproduce a winning blend exactly
- Traceability — know what went into every batch
- Compliance — components and LAL stay accounted for
CaskPilot records blends with component sources and calculates weighted ABV and LAL automatically. See the inventory guide.
